Tales of Mundane Magic: Volume Two

Cover art by Igor Canova.

Gertie and Bridget Mallon were able to survive their first semester at Flories Boarding School.

That, in and of itself, was quite an accomplishment. One would think they now have a handle on things, that life could be as normal as possible in a world of magic, ghosts and smartphones. Gertie can go back to practicing for her enchanting license, and Bridget for her driver’s license.

However, as much as the Mallon sisters would like things to be simple, with new students, new classes, and new adventures, maybe life isn’t quite as mundane as it seems.

Reviews

I was so excited to read the sequel to mundane magic! I love the sister relationship between Gertie and Bridget. Their world combines magic and technology in a way that is really interesting and fun!

Krevat does it again in this second installment of Tale of Mundane Magic. This collection of stories takes on a more linear approach than the first volume, following Gertie and Bridget through summer vacation and another school year. Along the way, their worlds expand as the pair travel to exotic locations, meet new classmates, and grapple with increasing responsibility, both magically and in a not so mundane life.

Although Volume 2 gets a little more serious, there is still that charm and lightheartedness that made Volume 1 so great. In fact, it’s the raised stakes that makes this book so effective, by illustrating both the highs and the lows of magic, and learning magic, in this world. I greatly enjoyed this book, and again am looking forward to the next!
